This Accountability Lab and European Partnership for Democracy (EPD) event will bring together the OGP Youth Collective and the Youth Democracy Cohort in a debate style format to discuss digital governance. The one hour session will be framed as a moderated debate with two participants on each side debating the topic before the session opens up to questions and then discussion. The idea of the format is to be provocative and to find new ways of drawing out ideas around a key OGP theme.

The theme will be centered around digital governance, which has the capacity to revolutionize every aspect of government, enabling access to information, and allowing for better transparency and accountability of public services. But how about the challenges? Recognizing that digital governance can also bring significant threats, this debate will examine both the benefits and the risks that digital governance can bring to our democracy.

Meet the moment. Raise ambition. Rise to the challenge.

The Open Government Challenge is a call to action for all members of OGP to raise ambition in ten areas of open government to help strengthen our democracies. Over the next five years, all members of the Partnership should aim to raise the ambition of reforms in 10 policy areas and demonstrate relevant progress in as many of the areas of the Challenge through their OGP action plans or beyond. We must act together to make a difference, because only when governments, public officials, and civil society work together, we see more ambitious and impactful reforms that transform our communities.

It’s our time to meet the moment. Let’s use Open Gov Week to take on the the Open Gov Challenge.
